Spring has (almost!) sprung and that means that the Kilpatrick Fly Fishers once again have many exciting events coming up…not to mention that fly fishing season is right around the corner!
Fly Tying Lessons – Update!
Beginning Monday March 11, 2013 in the evening and running each Monday night (except April 1st) until April 15, 2013 the Kilpatrick Fly Fishers will be holding Fly Tying Lessons. The lessons are geared towards those who have never tied before or have very little experience tying. Those with some tying experience are also welcome to attend. The first session will be held beginning at 7pm at the Faith River Church (2625 Preston Avenue South – door on northwest corner of the building leads to basement). The first session is complimentary and open to anyone with each meeting thereafter requiring attendees to purchase Kilpatrick memberships. Memberships will be available each night at the sessions and are $25 for an individual or $35 for a family. The club will provide all tools and materials. Those with their own tools and vise are welcome to bring them.
The scheduled patterns are as follows:
March 11 – Woolly Bugger
March 18 – Bunny Leech and Pike patterns
March 25 – O’keefe Special plus advanced lesson at separate table
April 1 – Monday following Easter – no tying lesson
April 8 – Pheasant tail and Hare’s Ear Nymphs
April 15 – Elk Hair Caddis and Adams (time permitting)
Fly Casting Lessons (Registration is full)
Just in time for opening day, casting lessons will be held in the evening on April 29, 30th and May 1st, 2013. The lessons will introduce attendees to the fundamentals of casting and provide instruction as well as hands on practice and guidance from club members. All rods and reels are provided so attendees are not required to bring any equipment. If you have a favorite fly rod or perhaps a newly acquired set up, feel free to bring it along! The first two evening sessions will be held in Kinsman Park (across from the Mendel Art Gallery) starting at 6:30pm. The third night location is being finalized but has been held at the SWF fish pond in past years.
Opening Day Fishout
Each spring the club has it’s annual opening day fishout at Danielson Park on Lake Diefenbaker. This year is no different and the season opening date for 2013 is slated for the 5th of May. As the date gets closer more details will be posted. This is a very fun event and is one you wont want to miss!
We will post more details surrounding the above events as they are finalized as well as any other upcoming events that may be scheduled.
We hope to see you out at KFF events!
